  • Post published:October 29, 2021

Most of you think that a Mechatronic Engineer is a mechanic but there is more to this profession than meets the eye.

Mechatronic Engineering is one of the fastest-growing disciplines of all other branches yet many of you feel a certain way about it. This is why we are going to talk about what this field of IT has to offer and what does a mechatronics engineer do on a day-to-day basis.

Tech branches such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering are commonly recognized and widely adopted but Mechatronics Engineering is that one field you don’t willingly choose. One reason could be the lack of engineers worldwide. But it is clear to us that many of you are unaware of its scope and learning benefits. This is why we are going to reveal some reasons why you should pursue a career in Mechatronics as well as we are going to share what it’s like to be a Mechatronics Engineer at Nextbridge and what does a mechatronics engineer do.

What Can You Do With a Mechatronics Degree

Mechatronics is a blend of mechanical, computer, and electrical studies. So if you pick this field of computer science you will not be stuck with one sphere but the slope of the learning curve is high. You will be performing a variety of duties such as:

  1. Working with electronics
  2. Real-time software development
  3. Implementing automation
  4. Managing electrical and mechanical systems
  5. Testing and managing new equipment
  6. Working with robots
  7. Robot manufacturing and aerospace
  8. Developing advanced sensor hardware
  9. Designing vision algorithms for autonomous cars and drones

Why Should You Choose the Mechatronics Profession?

If you are a deep thinker with a knack for problem-solving then this line of work could prove to be a turning point for you. Like we told you earlier, mechatronics is a fusion of three studies so you will become an expert in not one but three different domains.

Do you know how much a mechatronics engineer is bagging in the US today? Talent.com says that the average salary is $100,000 per year or $51.28 per hour. In a nutshell, the impact is high!

What Are The Expected Skills of a Mechatronic Engineer?

All you need is a sound knowledge of arithmetic, geometry, algebra, statistics, calculus, and other applications. You must have a reasonable knowledge of robotics production and processing.

Awareness of raw materials, quality control, and other relevant things that can be beneficial for the production and distribution of goods. About what does a mechatronics engineer do, we have explained almost everything in this blog!

For further intelligence, how about we cast some light on the skills and knowledge of our Senior Mechatronic Engineer at Nextbridge? We believe you learn faster from people’s experiences and this is why we have compiled the duties and responsibilities of our engineer for your guidance.

Here, Aqsa tells you a wee bit about her day as a Senior Mechatronic Engineer. You will get an outline of what it’s like to be a Mechatronics Engineer at Nextbridge along with some peculiarities that you can await routinely.

What Does a Mechatronics Engineer Do at Nextbridge

Mechatronics Engineers usually stay active with work like product designing & development, monitoring, troubleshooting new projects, researching new technological updates, and working with different suppliers to attain the latest hardware. Aqsa’s work is no different than theirs.

Aqsa is a graduate of Mechatronics and Control Engineering program. She graduated from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and experienced 4 weeks of internship in Pak Elektron Limited (PEL) that is the pioneer manufacturer of electrical goods in Pakistan. It’s been more than 6 years that she has been displaying her proficiency in Mechatronics at Nextbridge.

She’s a critical thinker, an expert at solving complex hardware & robotics problems, and good at mathematics. Currently, she’s working on a self-designed robot named ‘Range Rover’ and is almost close to completing its third revision. She has completed its 1st and 2nd revisions by automating it through a smartphone, and now because it’s in the 3rd revision, a camera is installed in it to fully automate it.

Aqsa is a quick learner, a person who exhibits the qualities of both introvert and extrovert. When she’s not working, she can be seen sitting with her girlfriends enjoying tea. She’s a big tea lover. She says when she sips tea, she forgets about the whole world. All our lives we thought that we were the only ones who loved tea but this isn’t the case.

Once we were casually chatting about how the world is going nuts after robots and how a day will come when robot authors will be introduced, blah blah. We noticed Ms. Aqsa explained the evolution of robots with sheer enthusiasm and how she thinks the robot world would look like in the future… We were so enthralled by her knowledge of robots that we decided to enroll her into one of our Institute’s Teaching Roles. Yes, Aqsa now teaches Fundamentals of Robotics Engineering to Nextbridge Institute’s students.

Mechatronics Engineer Job BTS: Day to Night

Being a professional Mechatronic Engineer, she is reserved to her work but explores new inventions that assist her to robust the productivity of current projects.

At 09:00 AM, she starts her day with morning tea and pancakes that her mom cooks for her. Aqsa may not be a good cook but she is an animal lover. She has a cute puppy at home that always welcomes her whenever she comes back from work. Their connection is deep.

She has a good sense of dressing thus; demands an hour to get ready. So, she wakes up early just to look good every day and we appreciate it.

At 10:30 AM, she is ready to go to her office. While driving her car, she listens to tech news, podcasts, and worldwide updates. Pretty cool, right? She always straightens her mind towards work, explores new ways of designing machines, and does mind mapping on different things to start her day with productivity.

At 11:00 AM, she gets started with her work, drinks another cup of tea, and scrolls through Instagram news feeds that are always full of updates from her close friends and family members. Posting a story daily on her Instagram is a must before she starts prioritizing her tasks.

At noon, she communicates with her team, discusses her tasks, and updates on current machine work. She is designing an electric rickshaw and bike. We can’t wait for it, to tell you.

At 1:00 PM, she goes for a lunch break to meet her two close friends Sana and Naveen from other departments. She discusses different movies and season updates, shares memes, and enjoys her break with them.

At 2:00 PM, after the lunch break, she works with some equipment with the help of soldering machines, drilling, and indulges herself in PCB making. Later, she can be found troubleshooting and sharing results with the line manager and her colleagues.

She proves herself to be a multitasker by responding to other departments and managing other tasks side by side.

At 5:00 PM, Aqsa interacts with her team members or visits those two friends to discuss random things. It is the most beautiful hour for her to feel relaxed.

What Does a Mechatronics Engineer Do Daily

At 6:00 PM, she has to test her new machines with DMM (Digital MultiMeter), jotting down different sequences, and evaluating the results. Test the efficiency of wire connections of the robot and jot down the issues of digital output. Later, she shares all the results with her team manager and starts planning to make things better.

At 7:00 PM, she plans to write a report and make a to-do list of tasks to manage things for tomorrow. She’s self-disciplined.

At 8:00 PM, she plans a course outline, communicates with the Nextbridge institute head, and efficiently coordinates with the institute team.

At 9:00 PM, she goes home, drives her car, and listens to calm music. She also visits the market to buy groceries for her mother. Such a sweet girl she is.

From 10:00 PM to 12:00 PM, she spends the rest of the day with her family, eating dinner and watching one episode of her current favorite season.
